i build things out of discarded materials i find in my neighborhood. most of the things i build are large and i need to have a lot of help to build them. i start with an idea, but more than anything else the specific materials help determine the final outcome. i get an incredible satisfaction from doing this for the following reasons: 1. i am not very big. there is probably a well known psychological condition to describe my desire to be bigger; to be taken seriously. 2. the materials i find are beautiful; money cannot buy everything. 3. i'm proposing a 4th R: repurpose; use your imagination.



a lot of my work has to do with the human condition. well, what artwork doesn't? so specifically, i think a lot about respect and how it is earned, when it is deserved. i think about the "working man" and what can be accomplished when a collective uses its force to achieve a goal. i think about violence and what is culturally accepted and culturally unaccepted ways of expressing violence. i think about intimate violence; the kind you inflict upon yourself. i'm interested, most of all, on the female perspective of all of these things.
